FIGHT HUNGER AND CLIMATE CHANGE BY TACKLING FOOD WASTE

Approximately one-third of all food produced for human consumption is lost or wasted worldwide. According to SWCorp Malaysia.44.5 percent of the 16,667.5 tonnes of food waste generated in Malaysia daily. About 24 percent of the total food waste is still edible, with the quantity sufficient to feed 2,970,000 hungry people, three times a day.

Yet hunger and malnutrition remains a global problem. Some 800 million people throughout the world go to bed hungry and one-third of all people lack essential nutrients. In Malaysia, 22 per cent of children below the age of five are stunted, 15 per cent are underweight, 20 per cent wasting (acute malnutrition) and 23 per cent are overweight or obese.

The Lost Food Project rescues โ€˜lostโ€™ (or surplus) food quality, nutritious food from going to landfill, and redistribute these food to up to 60 charities and soup kitchens as well as numerous B40 communities who live below the poverty line. Since 2016 till February 2021, TLFP rescued 1.7 million kg of food, provided 5.5 million meals to the hungry and prevented 4.4 million kg of greenhouse gas emissions from landfills in Malaysia.
